Lammas Altar

Love this! I need to incorporate some flowers!

Moody Moons

This year, I’m taking my early harvest festival altars downstairs closer to the kitchen, where so much of the Lammas and Mabon festivities center.

So instead of my usual altar space, I have commandeered the coffee table.

You may have noticed I take a minimalist approach to my altars.

But there are a few things that I must have on the Lammas altar for it to feel like Lammas.  🙂

The first is sunflowers, which are in season in abundance in this part of the country during the Lammas season.

Last year, I went with some friends to pick our own, but we’re going for raspberries this year, so I picked up this gorgeous bouquet at the farmer’s market.  It brightens up the whole house and they stay fresh for at least a couple of weeks.

Sun Spell to Banish Depression

Moody Moons

A few days back, I showed you how to bake sun cakes in honor of the solar energy that dominates the summer months. Now, I’m going to show you how you can use ritual cakes to invite light and happiness into your life.

If you don’t have a sun cake and don’t feel like baking one, you can use store bought lemon cookies.  Personally, I like to work the offering food by hand, but it’s not essential.

You will need:

*About 50 small stones

*an offering cake or cookie

*four yellow candles

*altar tile (optional)

Find a nice, quiet, sunny spot where you won’t be disturbed.  This is nice to do in the morning facing East.

The first thing I did was lay out the stones in a circle.  Stone formations have a long, ancient history with sun worshipers.  Think of sun dials, the Great Pyramids and Stonehenge.
