How to Make a Scrying Mirror

How to Make a Scrying Mirror thumbnail

Scrying is the use of a reflective surface to foretell the future. Made famous by Nostradamus himself, the scrying mirror is one of the most easily used gazing devices. Although crystal balls or placid bowls of water can also be used, the black scrying mirror is the most common and usually the most successful for new users. Although you can buy a black scrying mirror online or at new age stores, making your own gives your experience a more personal connection. It’s an easy process, so gather your materials and let’s get started.

Things You’ll Need

  •  A large picture frame (as large as you want your scrying mirror to be) with a glass insert
  • A can of flat black spray paint
  •  Paper towels
  •  Window cleaner

1.   Get your large picture frame with glass insert. I recommend getting a large antique or ornate frame and then getting glass cut to fit. Remember, this is your gazing device for which you should look into another world, so choose a unique frame that will help transport you to another place.

2.   Take the glass insert out of the frame and clean it with window cleaner and paper towels. Make sure it is clean and lint-free.

3.  Take the flat black spray paint and begin to coat 1 side of the glass with even, light strokes. Apply 1 thin coat and allow to dry. Apply following coats, drying completely in between coats, until no light shows through the glass.

4.  Place the glass into the frame with the painted surface towards the back. You want the glass, unpainted surface facing you in the frame. Apply the back to the frame to secure the glass. If your frame didn’t come with a backing, simply cut some heavy weight cardboard to fit and then use packing tape to seal the back to the frame.

5.   Bless the mirror with holy water or say a prayer of protection over it so that your scrying attempts are safe and successful.

Netflix Is Developing a Live-Action ‘Legend of Zelda’ Series

The Legend of Zelda,” one of the most popular videogame series of all time, is in the works as a television show at Netflix.

The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on “Zelda,” about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as Game of Thrones for a family audience, this person said.

The “Zelda” games have traditionally included swords and sorcery, like “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings,” but typically with a more light-hearted, kid-friendly tone.

Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo, the Japanese game developer that has made about 20 “The Legend of Zelda” games since the original, which was released in the U.S. in 1987.

Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has allowed few adaptations over the years. An animated “Legend of Zelda” series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros.” was an infamous bomb.

As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a “Legend of Zelda” series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground.

A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment. A Nintendo spokesman said the company “doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.”
